Son of Noah Shirtliff and Lydia Brown, he was born in Montgomery, Massachusetts, moved with his parents to Franklin, Portage County, Ohio, in 1819, and married Eunice Gaylor in 1830. They became Mormon converts, and moved to Kirtland, Ohio, Farr West, Missouri, and Nauvoo, Illinois, and other places, finally moving to Ogden, Utah, in 1853. In 1859 he settled at Harrisville, Weber County, Utah. Descendants and relatives lived in Utah, Idaho, and elsewhere. Includes some biographical material of Shurtleff/Shirtliff ancestry in Massachusetts. No DJ. Not library discard. ;
