Condition: New.

Book First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Ernest R. Norling, Emmet Eweres and Glenn Sheckles (illustrator). 1st Edition. 4to. (33 cm.) upaged [40p.]. Profusely illustrated with black and white drawings by Ernest R. Norling, including a double-page center color illustration by Norling which shows the Bon Marche (at its opening?) with numerous automobiles and people in the foreground, and with decorations by Emmet Ewers and Glenn Sheckles. Stapled booklet in color pictorial wrappers with a color image on the front cover of the front entrance of the Bon Marche by Emmet Ewers. Deckle edges. Just touches of wear to extremities, corners mostly square and flat, some rust on the staples, wrappers lightly soiled, all illustrations and decoration in fine condition, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. In 1890, Josephine Nordhoff (d. 1920) and her husband, Edward Nordhoff (1858-1899) arrived in Seattle and used their $1,200 savings to start a dry goods store. That tiny retail shop, which they called the Bon Marche, became one of the Pacific Northwest?s most famous department stores. The 2nd Avenue store was enlarged several times. In 1928, Frank McDermott and Rudolf Nordhoff commissioned a new, $5 million building at 3rd Avenue and Pine Street, designed by prominent Seattle architect John Graham Sr., which opened in 1929. The booklet offered here commemorates the grand opening of the new Bon Marche.
