Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Presumed First Edition. Undated. Appears to be circa 1930s/40s. Oddly produced book, printed in Japan on unusual paper with unusual construction. Red silk like limp covers. Color frontispiece. 127 pages, bound with thin cord or string, and housed in a three fold cloth cover, with title label on front, which fastens at one edge with a couple bone-like (ivory? plastic?) pegs. The story of a leper and the leper colony on Oshima, Japan, apparently based on writings by Nagata, supplemmented with poetry, etc. Appears to be somewhat fictionalized. The book is in near fine condition. The outer cloth case is vg+ with some wear to cloth on and near bottom edge. Book.

Hardcover. Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Folding cloth-covered slip case (2-fold, 2 spines) with bone clasps; book plate on back end paper; one spine has fabric missing from top and bottom. Inside is a 127-page book with fabric covers and fine cord fastenings at spine. Frontispiece is a co lored seascape. Illustrations. The author was a resident on the island of Oshima, which was a hospital for lepers. The co-author, Lois Erickson, notes in the Explanation: "These stories are part of a book called Mi Sora no Hana (Flowers of Heaven), written by Honami Nagata." "They tell of the personal experiences of himself and three or four friends." "He is a leader in the Poetry Club at Oshima, and a constant contributor to the monthly magazine published by the Christians there". "In retell ing these stories, I have allowed myself all freedom. In some I have given explanations and descriptions to make a vivid setting for the picture. In others, Nagata's style and mine are intermingled". "To these life histories I have added many verses taken from the little Christian magazine". "The Mission to Lepers has had its faithful share in bringing to these sick ones at Oshima the joy to which they bear such witness".
