Two big, heavy, tall, oversized volumes in quarto hardcover format, comprising the two volumes that make up Part II of the Italian 16th Century Books collection. Stuffed with black-and-white illustrations, compiled by Ruth Mortimer. Complete in two volumes. Bound simply in red brick-colored cloth over boards, still sharp and distinct gilt lettering to spine, and over black cloth labels at spines. First Editions, both. Volumes measure 11 3/4" tall x 9" wide, and are missing the original slipcase. Brillian, useful survey of 16th-Century Italian books. Hundreds of black-and-white plates, title pages and with comprehensive bibliographic and other information on several hundred 16th-century titles. Complete with Index, Chronology and other scholarly edifice. Table of Contents as follows: Volume I: Aaron to Lusitano, 265 books. Volume II: Maggi to Zuallart 293 books; 558 titles in total. Volume I: xvii [1], 1-383 pp.; Volume II: frontis matter, 385-840 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. From the library of the late Bernard Rosenthal with his ownership label on bottom corners of pastedowns. Half-title of volume I "Inscribed for Bernard Rosental with pleasure in his knowledge of the books, Ruth Mortimer, June 26, 1981." Also laid in a manuscript letter to Rosenthal from Anrea Boca? In Italian apparently regarding this work and other matters - image included for those who can translate. Furthermore: Laid in, a newsprint obit of Mortimer, two printed stapled sheets of Mortimer's Obituary by Margaret Lane Ford from The Papers of the Bibliographical Society of America; a section from The Papers of the Bibliographical Society of America by Ruth Mortimer on St. Catherine of Siena pps. 11-22 with a section of 8 plates (loose in part) . Laid in at item 200, [Frezzi, Frederigo] is a publication announcement for Frederigo Frezzi, Il Quadriregio published by Roxburghe London. And finally, laid in with vol. II, Is a folding card printed at the Warwick Press, with three sides of manuscript note to Bernard Rosenthal from John Lancaster, Special Collections Curator at Amherst College, dated July 97, thanking him for "good words about Ruth", and regarding a letter to Ken Carpenter from Rosenthal, among other other matters. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 840 pages.
