This small book put out by The Friends Of Lewes Society is both a history of the battle that was fought in 1264 and its ramifications, reasons why and a guide to the battleground itself. There are three essays: the battle itself by a military historian, and to essays on acknowledged masters of 13th century English history. For, as the front fold over panel blurb states, ". (The historians essays) explain the context of the battle in English history and bring out its significance in the early development of parliamentary government." Minor rubbing to the book corners with uniform tanning of the text block edges and pages previous owners name to the top right-hand corner of the title page. Chipping to the dust wrapper corners and back strip corners with sunning of the back strip. Some creasing to the top dust wrapper edge with browning and foxing of the rear panel.
