An increasingly uncommon first edition in collector's condition. Dust jacket price intact. Dust jackt has a small chip next to foot of spine. A wonderful comic, farcical and mystical nove, brilliantly written novel. McPherson was also a highly talented poet, and was appointed West Virginia poet laureate in 1943, at the age of 22, by West Virginia Governor Matthew M. Neely. He holds the record as the youngest poet laureate. The story goes that McPherson's parents, unbeknownst to him, submitted a poem entitled "West Virginia" (written while an undergraduate at West Virginia University) to a contest conducted to select the state's laureate. He received the letter notifying him of his laureateship while serving as a Pfc in "the 95th Infantry Division in the California Desert". McPherson's literary gracefulness and exemplary use of language permeates Goodbye Rosie.
