Soft cover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. Trade paperback. (No ISBN stated) Illustrated throughout with vintage black and white photographs dating back as far as the San Fernando Mission, in 1894 before repairs. Three of the chapters were written by Charles F. Lummis (1859-1928), author , editor, archaeoligst, historian, libarian, and founder of the SouthWest Museum. An interesting black and white photograph of Lummis shows him wearing the Brand Cross of Isabel la Catolica. Good reading copy, fair wrappers, completely intact., but worn. From the preface: The formal declaration by the Catholic Church of an individual's personal salvation has been aptly declared as the most complicated legal process in the world. Such a proclamation often comes only of centuries of research, discussion and purposeful delay. An outstanding example of this rigorous procedure is the cause of Frey Junipero Serra, the "enthusiastic, battling, almost quarrelsome, fearless, keen-witted, fervidly devout, unselfish, single-minded missionary" who launched the Christin evangelization of California, just two centuries ago. . Rev. Francis J. Weber, Archivist, Archdiocese of Los Angeles. (Religion, Biography.
