This is an unusually attractive copy, and only two copies are currently available in libraries, both in Denmark, according to the O.C.L.C.; a single additional copy is available to the trade. Hardcover, quarto format, with 48 full-page, hand-colored lithographs printed one side only. Stiff paper wrappers and then rebound in three-quarters leather and marbled paper over boards, featuring five raised bands to spine, gilt-tooled fleurs-de-lis, title, author in compartments. A bit of sunning to decorated endpaper edges, ditto to half-title page. There is a hand-colored engraving at half-title, quite striking and colorful. Paginated with difficulty as [4], 137, [3, a blank], + 48 engraved hand-colored posters (including the vignette on title) + 2 engraved music appendices. The author, Carl Gustaf "Gosta" Forssell lived 1783-1848, and was a leading voice regarding travel, exploration, agriculture and international relations. The notes he took and the illustrations of the people he met and activities he witnessed make this a special book.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Zwei Tafeln mit Ansichten des Fiellen fjord und von Schloß Gripsholm. - Der schwed. Kupferstecher C. D. Forssell (1777-1852) ging nach seiner Ausbildung als Goldschmied in Stockholm für weitere Studien nach Paris und Amsterdam. Seit 1817 war er Professor an der Kunst-Akademie in Stockholm. - Rücken etwas aufgehellt, Frontispiz im unteren Rand mit restauriertem Eckabriss, nur vereinzelt leicht braunfleckig und etwas gebräunt, sehr gutes Exemplar. Sprache: französisch.

Condition: Very Good. 4to. 103 pp, with 48 colored lithographic plates, mostly with peasent costumes from Dalarna, Helsingland, Lappland, Södermanland, Westergöthland, Småland, Blekinge and Skåne, but also genre scenes and a few of architectural interest. Some light occasional foxiing, but generally clean and plates would all be of frameable quality. Binding is tight. Corners and edges have wear. Overall very good copy of a delightful and charming costume plate book.

Cloth spine split almost all the way on back board and held by head and tail of spine. Some discoloration, minor staining and wear to boards. Corners worn. A wonderful portfolio depicting various costumes from different eras of Swedish history. Magnificently illustrated with 46 full page color drawings plus a color frontispiece. Minor water staining to bottom right corners of three of the plates not affecting image.Text in Swedish. Folder in fair, plates in very good condition.
