Zweite, letzte und vollständigste Ausgabe; herausgegeben von Prosper Marchand. Die 1709 erschienene erste Ausgabe umfasste nur 5 Bände. "Le Comte d'Estrades a ete un de ces nobles d'humble origine qui ont fait leur fortune en servant a la fois dans l'armee et dans la diplomatie. D'abord page de Louis XIII, il combattit en Hollande, puis sous les ordres du cardinal de La Valette. Il etait en outre maire perpetuel de Bordeaux depuis 1653, gouverneur de Dunkerque, puis du Roussillon. Il devint ambassadeur en Angleterre en 1661, eut un conflit celebre avec le baron de Watteville, ambassadeur d'Espagne et negocia la restitution de Dunkerque a la France. Ses lettres et memoires racontent tous les faits de sa vie, de 1637 a 1662, de 1663 a 1668 et de 1676 a 1677". Bourgeois et Andre, 1026. Godefroi, Comte d"Estrades ( 1607-1686). Seit 1646 Botschafter Ludwig XIV. in Holland nahm, in dieser Eigenschaft an der Konferenz von Münster teil. Seit 1661 in England, erreichte er die Rückgabe (Kauf) von Dünkirchen, 1667 handelte er mit dem König von Dänemark den Vertrag von Breda aus und 1678 den Vertrag von Nijmwegen, der den Krieg mit Holland beendete. Unabhängig von diesen diplomatischen Missionen nahm er an den Kriegszügen Ludwig XIV. in Italien (1648), in Katalonien (1655), und in Holland (1672) teil und wurde 1675 zum Marschall von Frankreich und Vizekönig der nordamerikanischen Kolonien ernannt. 3500 gr.

Depuis ses premières victoires militaires, le Comte d'Estrades aura été une importante figure de l'histoire durant les règnes de Louis XIII et Louis XIV, ambassadeur et diplomate en Angleterre, Hollande, Allemagne, il sera un des plénipotentionnaires dans la préparation de la paix de Nimègue. Maréchal de France, gouverneur de Dunkerque (après avoir négocié pour son rachat), Maire perpétuel de Bordeaux et vice-roi de la Nouvelle France, il a accumulé les honneurs et les charges. Le Comte avait amassé un grand nombre de documents sur ses multiples activités. On sait aujourd'hui que certains de ces documents et certaines lettres ont été falsifiés par le Comte d'Estrades lui-même pour glorifier sa mémoire. La correspondance et les documents sont classés par années, de 1637 jusque 1677. L'ensemble constitue une masse incroyable de lettres et de mémoires sur les affaires européennes.
