Published by Editoiral Joaquín Mortiz, Cuadernos de Joaquín Mortiz, México, 1974
Paperback. Condition: Good. Fifth Edition. 128p., indices, wrps. Critical essays on presidential power in Mexico by leading historian It has always been a taboo to judge a President of the Republic still in office, and more so in the current case, who is considered the most discussed head of state in revolutionary Mexico. Cosío Villegas prepared the ground for that judgment from his previous essay: The Mexican Political System (5th edition, 1974) by assuring that the main piece of such a system is the President, because he has such unlimited powers and resources that they lead him to govern, not institutionally, but personally. Three years of government give the author the opportunity to reflect on the person of the President and his collaborators, as well as on a government work that intends to transform the reality in which we live. The meticulous observation of this work and the meditation to which it gives rise will provoke in the reader restlessness and satisfaction that will allow him to adopt a more lucid and controversial position in the face of national problems.

Paperback. Condition: Good. Second edition. 149p., indices, wrps. He was one of the few critics of Luis Echeverría Álvarez at the time he was President of the Republic. His acid articles in the Excelsior newspaper stood out especially in times of repression, this annoyed Echeverría and he made it known through different means, for which Cosío Villegas considered stopping writing. Secretary of Education Bravo Ahuja visited him and told him that his wife had asked him to beg Don Daniel not to stop writing, in the end Bravo Ahuja's wife turned out to be Echeverría himself, who flat out got off his cloud and told him spoke to the historian: Keep writing. One of his landmark books was The Presidential Succession (1975), in which he explained several taboos about the presidency of Mexico that was held in his time by the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). In 1976 he published his memoirs which took him two years to complete. He was simply buried in the Garden Pantheon. The government wanted to send him to the Rotunda of Illustrious Men, but his widow refused. At the initiative of Cosío Villegas, Lázaro Cárdenas helped the exiles of the Spanish Civil War to reach Mexico, and with them and with Alfonso Reyes Ochoa, among many others, La Casa de España was founded, which would later become El Colegio de Mexico, of which Cosío Villegas was founder and director.
