Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Second Edition. New York, Chicago, & San Francisco: Rand McNally & Company, 1930. Because of the stereotyped characters, Amos & Andy are controversial today. The radio show was extremely popular , running from 1928 into the 1960s. Although the book claims that Negroes enjoyed it as much as whites, the show was under protest almost from the start. The creators, who also performed the parts, were white, but when a transfer to television was made in 1951, the parts were played by African-American actors. At any rate, the show is an interesting and significant part of American cultural history. This is a Very Good copy of the Second Edition, issued a year later than the First. Orange cloth binding with black lettering. Decorative endpapers, with checkerboard pattern and two cartoon illustrations. Clean text; 126 pages, with many illustrations. There is a neatly-done previous-owner signature ("age 8 years") on the half-title. This copy shows wear on the outside, with soiling and chips along the spine. Internally, however, it is excellent. Lacking the striking, if embarrassing, dustjacket. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Second Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.
