Paperback. Condition: Very Good. `A Shot From The Shadows' see's Albert Hagerman caught up in the dark world of political uncertainty in a demoralised and beaten Germany. The Nazi party is in its infancy but it already shows signs of being a ruthless and murderous organisation. In London people are noticing that the path to conflict is looking like it might become a highway for the great nations of Europe to be dragged into another war. If it is to be avoided they must convince the main party, the Nazi party to toe the line. To do this they have to convince its leader Adolf Hitler, and get him to see sense. Jack Adams and Albert Hagerman are sent to collect him from the heartland of this new Nazi party. Nobody expects it to be easy but the rewards are too important to leave any stone unturned, and any action to ensure the meeting takes place is authorised. In modern day France an old Commonwealth War Grave collapses into a previously unknown bunker. What the recovery team discover causes a ripple in the modern day diplomatic theatre. This discovery has to be kept quiet, the consequences of failing are too fearful to contemplate. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Book
Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. What has lived with us, entertained us, travelled with us and symbolised Australian aspirations, only to end up gathering dust or even at the tip? It's not the car, or the washing machine, or the sewing machine . . . it's the piano! The intriguing cultural history of the piano in AustraliaFrom the instruments that floated ashore at Sydney Cove in the late eighteenth century to the resurrection of derelict heirlooms in the streets of twenty-first-century Melbourne, A Coveted Possession tells the curious story of Australia's intimate and intrepid relationship with the piano. It charts the piano's fascinating adventures across Australia - on the goldfields, at the frontlines of war, in the manufacturing hubs of the Federation era, and in the hands of the makers, entrepreneurs, teachers and virtuosos of the twentieth history - to illuminate the many worlds in which the ivories were tinkled. Before electricity brought us the gramophone, the radio and eventually the TV, the piano was central to family and community life. With its iron frame, polished surfaces and ivory keys, an upright piano in the home was a modern industrial machine, a musical instrument and a treasured member of the household, conveying powerful messages about class, education, leisure, national identity and intergenerational history.'Michael Atherton cleverly weaves visual, sensual and sonic elements into the piano's sociocultural history, adding a rich layer to our knowledge of the piano in Australia.'-Professor Julia Horne, historian Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

[ Rosley Books for Antiquarian books, Literature, Theology and History. ] REVEREND PROFESSOR Canon Ronald Haydn Preston (1913-2001) died at age of 88, was the Church of England's leading authority on social ethics. Ronald Haydn Preston was born on March 12 1913. Having graduated with a degree in Economics from the LSE in 1935, he spent three years working as industrial secretary of the Student Christian Movement (SCM), then a large and influential ecumenical body. Drawn to Holy Orders, he then went to Ripon Hall, Oxford - noted for its liberal theological outlook - and, as a member of St Catherine's Society (now College), took a First in Theology. From 1940 to 1943 he was a curate in Sheffield, then returned to the SCM as its study secretary and editor of The Student Movement - tasks for which his combination of political, economic and theological skills equipped him perfectly. By 1948, Preston's reputation was such that he secured an appointment as Lecturer in Ethics at Manchester University - a post he held for the next 22 years, for the first 15 of which he was also Warden of St Anselm Hall, a residence for theological students. Preston was awarded a Doctorate of Divinity by Oxford University in 1983. His literary output was extensive. Besides innumerable articles in theological journals, contributions to dictionaries and symposia on subjects such as strikes, penal reform, capital punishment, artificial insemination and the welfare state, he wrote several substantial books. These include Technology and Social Justice (1971); Religion and the Persistence of Capitalism (1979); The Future of Christian Ethics (1987); Religion and the Ambiguities of Capitalism (1991); and Confusions in Christian Social Ethics (1994). **.
