This is a set of 39 of 50 volumes of an Icelandic-Canadian literary journal published from 1919-1968, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. PUBLISHER: Winnipeg : Þjóðræknisfélag Íslendinga, 1919-[1968]. DESCRIPTION: v. : ill., ports. ; 26 cm. CONDITION: All volumes in Very Good condition or better in wraps, except for Vols./Year 1 on which rear cover and last leaf are loose; vol. 3 which is missing front cover; bol 8 which is missing front cover; and Vol. 18 which has a small hole in rear cover resulting in a loss of a couple of letters only to advert. on recto of rear cover - both these volumes are otherwsise VG. SUBJECTS: Canadian periodicals (Icelandic); Icelandic Canadians--Periodicals; Périodiques canadiens (islandais); Canadiens d'origine islandaise--Périodiques; literature; literary journals. We have in this set Volumes 1-3, 5, 7-9, 16, 18, 20-50. They average about 150 pages in length and all measure 26 X 18 cm. CONTENTS: Kristjansson, in The Icelandic People in Manitoba (pp. 465 and 501), states that this journal : " . . . has featured historical and literary articles, plays, and poetry by the best Icelandic-American [read Icelandic Canadian and American] writers . . . it has consistently maintained a high standard.". The editors were Dr. Rognvaldur Petursson and Gisli Jonsson, with Gisli Jonsson and Professor Haraldur Bessason [former Head of Icelandic Studies, U. of Manitoba] co-editors since 1962". The very first item in the first issue is a poem by the noted Icelandic-Candian poet Stephan G. Stephansson and he has three additional pages on poetry in this first issue; also in this inaugural issue is an article about the Icelandic-Canadian/American explorer Vilhjalmur Stephansson.
