This souvenir publication produced by the New Zealand Government has a nice colour illustration on the front cover of a Maori Hei-Tiki. "The cover-design of this little souvenir volume features the 'tiki,' a much-prized ancient Maori charm or token (actual size)." The booklet's contents are a general guide to New Zealand and its attractions. "Just seventeen years ago the people of New Zealand were privileged to welcome to these shores an American battleship fleet of sixteen ships, commanded by Rear-Admiral Charles S. Sperry in the 'Connecticut' [. . .] Sprung from the same Anglo-Saxon stock, possessed of the same high ideals and proud traditions, and working for the betterment of civilization, your great nation typifies all that is best in world progress to-day." The illustrations include New Zealand scenery and mountains, Swordfish and mako sharks caught in the Bay of Plenty, a "dainty Maori maiden", a Maori Chief and warrior, the American whaleship "Erie" celebrating Independence Day in New Zealand waters, 4th July, 1834. ; 8vo.
