No date (c. 1860's) . Pressed plant specimens, some accompanied by hand written poems by English authors, e. G. The pressed specimen of "Hawthorn" is accompanied by Herrick's poem on the Hawthorn. Dimensions: 6 3/8" by 4 1/8". On the front endpaper the owner has written: To Please One Feeling Heart // For One Calm Thoughtful Hour // Go Little Book // Content if Thine the Power [.] There are Still in Thee // Instructive Book of Nature! Many Leaves // Which Yet No Mortal has Perused". The plant specimens include many ferns and a couple of sea weeds. Condition: . A number of the plant specimens have fallen out and are missing. Some of the plant specimens have fairly heavy mould stains around them. The book also has geometry sketches and exercises, from which it has been recycled into a pressed specimen book (probably by the same owner whose signature is also present upside-down on the rear pastedown, dated Nov 1858) . The book is in a loose fitting leather jacket with sewn fabric edges (leather jacket c. 1900? ). A couple of red seaweeds are labelled "Sea Weed from Berwick on Tweed". Other plants are: Blue Lupin, Hawthorn, variegated Holly, Rose Leaf, Mountain Ash, Scotch Nettle, Indian Nettle, Raspberry, Wild Thyme. Most of the ferns are just labelled "Fern". ; 12mo.
