Title: The Oxford Book of Garden Flowers
Publisher: Book Club Associates / Oxford
Book Condition: Very Good
. Hardcover. Book Club Associates / Oxford, 1974. In laminated dust jacket in mint condition, blue cloth binding in mint condition. vii+208pp on gloss paper. This is a companion volume to THE OXFORD BOOK OF WILD FLOWERS. It has 96 coloured plates, and the facing text pages describe the flowers on the plate, explain their culture, and include notes on other related plants. There is also a section at the end on various garden topics such as 'What to grow in a shady bed or on a north wall'; garden soils; miniature gardens and window boxes; and an index. The arrangement of the book is seasonal. It begins in the New Year with pages on winter-flowering shrubs, and early bulbs and herbs. It follows on with pages of annuals, herbaceous plants, shrubs, rock plants, roses, and bulbs, until in the late autumn it ends with berrying shrubs and everlasting flowers. The plants in each picture are chosen to show which flowers open together and require similar treatment, vital facts in laying plans for future planting. Though intended for the beginner who will find in its pages the easy and popular plants, most pages contain something less usual to help extend his knoweldge; and only the most hardened expert will fail to find something he has not seen before among the 500-odd subjects illustrated. 9¾x 7¼. . . . .
