7" x 4.5". 37pp. Plain white wrappers, with a printed outer wrapper. Fine condition. Stated limited edition, one of only 100 numbered copies printed on handmade paper. An account of a strange lawsuit regarding the buried treasure of Pirate Captain Kidd. The cast of characters includes Cotton Mather, Fredrick Law Olmsted, Lady Dunmore, and John Jacob Astor. With several photo illustrations including a frontispiece showing Astor dressed as fur trapper. Head was founder of the Chicago Liars Club; this volume is his fabricated tale of a massive lawsuit against John Jacob Astor in 1898 for the theft of Captain Kidd's treasure. The hoax has, at various times, been taken as true. The colophon is inaccurate: the 400 "trade edition" copies were never printed, and only 50 (of the 100 listed) hand-bound copies on hand-made paper were printed. Seller Inventory # 22487
