(c. 1726) Printed By: Thomas Bowles, John Bowles, & John King (London). Map of Great Britain, oriented to the North. Compass rose. Inset: Shetland Islands and Part of the Orkney Islands. Copper engraving, printed from two plates, joined. Heavy laid paper, outline hand-coloring. Size: Printed area measures: 40-1/8 x 24-3/8 inches (101.6 x 60.96 cm) / Overall paper size including margins: 40-7/8 x 25-1/4 inches (103.82 x 64.13 cm). Verso: Blank Condition: Old colored. Occasional minor surface abrasion; Remnant of old hinge tape at 10 points around the reverse border; Remnant of postage stamps at the upper reverse side (used as hinges); Professional restoration along the reverse folds & along a twelve inch crescent shaped tear at the bottom center edge. (See Photo); When held to the light an unobtrusive pin hole is detected; ½ inch reinforcing strip along the left side (contemporary laid paper). Overall very good condition. From: Moll Herman.
