Hardcover, no dustjacket, original red cloth binding with gold title and decoration, top edge gilt, features 36 beautiful illustrations with the original tissue-guards, 34 of the plates are hand-colored, also, a frontis engraving of Aldrovandi and a title page vignette of polecats, 309 pages, covers bats, seals, rodents, hares, deer, etc., also includes a Memoir of Aldrovandi, the red cloth spine is sunned to a dull red color, gentle corner-crease to the bottoms of the pages, slight tanning to the edges of the tissue-guards and plates, this last flaw does not affect the color on any of the plates, they are clean and bright as is all of the text, the binding is tight and square and there are no other remarkable flaws, no copyright date but a later printing than the 1838 edition published by Lizars.
