Title page: Medallion from Congress Medal. 399pp. Contents: 13 chapters, Appendix At the beginning and the end of each chapter is a "vignette": "Initial Letter" and "Tail Piece". The paper is yellowed and foxed. Page 213, a piece of paper [3/4-in x 3/8-in] is missing on the fore-edge. A sheet of paper [3 1/2-in x 4 1/2-in] printed with the name of a previous owner and address, is glued on ffep.; the same name is inked on back ep. Dark green decorative cloth hc. design embossed on front and back boards; gilt sailing ship on front board; gilt design and lett. on spine. On the front cover, along the lower right corner, the cardboard and the cloth are waved and lightly discolored, probably by water. The spine and edges are rubbed and torn, the corners are bumped and torn; the cloth cover is soiled.
