Extremely rare and important contemporary account of an Irish Martyrs and a list of the Martyres Iberniae in the Supplement. Condition: Original calf, worn, with raised bands and gilt tooling on the spine. Library stamps on the bottom edge of a couple of pages. Author Description: Blessed Francis Tayor was born in Swords, Co. Dublin c. 1550 into a wealthy Catholic Family. He was elected Lord Mayor of Dublin in 1595. A convinced Catholic, He was imprisoned in 1614 for refusing to accept his freedom by giving up his religion under the Acts of Supremacy and Uniformity. He died seven years later, in prison, on January 29th, 1621. A bronze sculpture of him and Margaret Ball stands outside the main entrance to the Pro-Cathedral of St. Mary?s in Dublin.
