Title: Holograph Letter re. the Bark Catalina and ...
Publisher: Dec 29, San Francisco
Publication Date: 1871
Approximately 10-1/2 x 8 inches. on Pacific Insurance Company's letterhead. An interesting letter addressed to "To Whom it may concern" about Captain C. H. Hewitt. The letter states ".Captain Hewitt was employed by the different parties in interest and had charge of an expedition .to the Okhotsk Sea . Bark "Catalina" wrecked near Okhotsk City in Sept 1870 . he is entitled to confidence". It is interesting that there are four signatures and each one has added his own recommendation of Captain Hewitt. The letter does not explain why the Catalina sank, only praises captain Hewitt. The Okhotsk Sea is off the east coast of Siberia and west of the peninsula Kamtshatka. Laid down on cardboard backing, browning, a few foxing marks, inks bright and readable.
