pp. viii, , 18-322, 6 pages of ads. Illustrated with frontispiece, engraved title, and six engraved plates all with tissue guards. Original publisher's beautiful, ornate, gilt stamped, decorative, medium tan, leather binding. Signed American binding by "S Moore Binder Phil". First edition, first issue of Edgar Allan Poe's "Eleonora" with the 1842 date on the spine, on the engraved title page, and on the printed title page. Other contributors include Mrs. Sigourney, Charles West Thomson, Catharine E. Beecher, Park Benjamin. Binding is complete and solid with no chips, some of the gilt is lightly worn and rubbed. Endpapers have staining along edges and a former owner's name on the front free end paper (of the period). Interior of the book is mostly clean with medium foxing at the plates which is common for gift books of this period. Collated complete of a scarce title in solid, original condition. BAL 16135.
