Yellow cloth with brown lettering and cover decorations by Bertram Goodhue. Minor edgewear and light general soil. Previous owner signature to front endpaper in an elaborate hand. Text is otherwise clean and bright, no marks. Rear hinge starting. Set in the early days of the New York colonies in the 18th century, a brother and sister seek their fortunes in the New World. Because of the brother's wild ways, the sister Aveline is forced into bonded service in the household of a Dutch woman on the banks of the Hudson in order to pay her passage.
