About the Book

Bibliographic Details

Title: Dulcy: a Comedy in Three Acts

Publisher: New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons

Publication Date: 1921

Edition: First Edition.

INSCRIBED by George S. Kaufman and Marc Connelly to George Alison, a member of the original cast, "who withstood the entire engagement. " Their first collaboration, DULCY concerns a sweet but dizzy girl (Lynn Fontanne in the original production) whose well-intentioned actions lead to a string of mishaps. The play, based on a character created by Franklin P. Adams, ran for 241 performances, and was made into three films, in 1923, 1929 (as NOT SO DUMB, directed by King Vidor), and again in 1940. Born in England, George Alison (1865-1936) specialized in portraying judges, doctors, and aristocrats. He enjoyed a long association with Kaufman, performing in the original productions of THE BUTTER AND EGG MAN, and most memorably as Mr. Fitch in DINNER AT EIGHT. A very good copy, with dampstaining to the pages; still a very appealing copy of a wonderful play. Bookseller Inventory # 13078
