An bit of an association copy, inscribed by the famous actress-singer Sophie Tucker to showgirl Vivian Keefer. Date of inscription is 3/22/47. At one time both Sophie Tucker and Vivian Keefer had appeared with the Ziegfeld Follies, although it is not certain that they met each other that way. Tucker left the Follies in 1909 and it is not recorded when Keefer was first a Ziegfeld showgirl, although it is known that she had a part in the Ziegfeld theatre production of "Show Boat" in 1932. In 1933 Keefer was one of the beauties to appear with Eddie Cantor in the movie "Roman Scandals." She was also a Earl Carroll showgirl. Even though it is uncertain where she first met Sophie Tucker, Ms. Keefer was clearly no stranger to stage appearances and could have worked with Tucker on any number of occasions. Keefer was noted for being a stunningly attractive tall, leggy blonde. Somewhat the opposite of Tucker, who made good use of her own somewhat stout appearance in her humourous sketches. The pages of this copy are browning from age, as is usual with these old Garden City reprint editions. Short closed tear at top of title page. The inscription is on the half title page and fills up the entire page (Sophie Tucker wrote big). Cloth of book is only moderately worn, but for some reason the covers have blotchy dark spotting, possibly caused by some interaction with the external environment that the book found itself stored in. The spine cloth is not, however, affected, so it will look decent in a bookcase. Book has illustrated endpapers showing Tucker in many of her roles on the stage. This copy with an interesting little Hollywood story quite apart from its text. Bookseller Inventory # 1690
