Volume I has had a heavy knock to the lower corner of the front board and a lighter knock to the lower corner of the rear board. Volume II has bruising to the tail of the spine. Volume VI with small knocks to upper corners of boards, also causing 1/2" creases to the upper corners of the first few leaves in the volume. Volume VII with former owner's signature "P H Rule" in light pencil on the front endpaper. All volumes with moderate foxing to the spine cloth and to the paper spine labels. Corners of boards rubbed on most volumes, typically with a 3/8" loss of paper along the edge of the board at each corner. All hinges intact with no splitting at the gutters. ; 12 volumes (complete). Quarter cloth and papered boards. Paper title labels on spines. Page dimensions: 223 x 150mm. Top page edges gilt. Three of the volumes (VI, IX, and XII) have a limitation leaf preceding the title leaf, which reads "The publishers certify that this edition of The Collected Works of Ambrose Bierce consists of two hundred and fifty numbered sets, autographed by the author, and that the number of this set is .". However, none of these pages have been numbered and none of the volumes in this set have been signed by Bierce. In short, an unsigned, unnumbered set of Bierce's Collected Works.
