About this Item
Near Fine. Pictorial Wraps. Flat signed and dated ("3/5/95") by Burgett on title page, and inscribed and signed by Svanevik: "To Eleanor". "Eleanor" is crossed out and "Beatrice" added above. Illustrated throughout with b/w photographs and maps. Svanevik & Burgett capture the diverse weirdness and wonders of Colma, a tiny town with 16 cemeteries adjacent to San Francisco. Some of the eternal residents include Tina Turner's dog (wrapped in one of her fur coats). Wyatt Earp (whose gravestone had to be set in concrete because it was stolen several times) is in the Jewish cemetery (he married a Jewish woman and became a storekeeper in California), William Randolph Hearst, and a host of famous and infamous others. There are special sections for the Serbian, Greek Orthodox, Italian, Japanese, and other nationalities. Interestingly, the most visited cemetery is Pets' Rest. Index. With laid in 1993 newsletter from the Colma Historical Association, flyer for course taught by Svanevik entitled "The History of San Mateo County," and bookmark listing the professional accomplishments of Svanevik & Burgett. Very mild wear to covers. Interior is clean, crisp, tight & bright, other than the authors' inscriptions unmarked. 146 pp. Approx. 6" x 9". A very nice copy and an excellent addition to your library. Carefully shipped in secure parcel. Ask all questions; glad to respond. Seller Inventory # 501645
