Hardcover, 8vo., blue cloth boards with gilt titles on spine, has been rebound but missing title pages, frontis plate I, plates are correct until plate XVII and then plate 12 is duplicated, begins at plate 19, but then plate 15 is duplicated, starting at plate 22, 23, then jumping to plate 26, duplicate 22, plate 32 starts order again ending with plate 35. In total there are 30 plates in total including two duplicates, line drawings throughout, 240pp. The book is still interesting for its hand-coloured plates, line drawings and botanical information about popular garden plants. First Edition. 220 pages, 28 colored plates (some are hand-coloured, and some are chromolithographs), the plates show anything between one and six plants - the single plant plates tend to be hand-coloured. some with the original tissue guards; no title page as such, but page one includes the title Brooks Popular Botany. Both boards missing, backstrip chipped with most of the original leather lost. Original brown coated end papers, plates generally very good, about 10 with a very light water stain to the top margin (also affecting a few letterpress pages), just touching the printed part on a few plates.
