"Upon the transference of the caliphate following Sultan Selim's victory in Egypt, the Sacred Relics in the treasury in Alexandria, as well as those with the Abbasid caliphs in Egypt and the governor of Makka, were brought to Istanbul. These relics were preserved with respect and love in the sultan's Throne Room, and for four hundred years the Holy Qur'an was read next to them in pious reverence twenty-four hours a day. The Sacred Relics had a privileged position in official ceremonies, which often included visits to the Holy Mantle and the unfolding of the Honored Standard, This book is the most comprehensive publication on this subject since Tahsin Öz's Emanet-i Mukaddese [The Sacred Trusts] was published with black and white photographs in 1953. Most of the itmes in this work are being illustrated for the first time, and numerous notes and listings found in the inventory records of the Sacred Relics, numbering over 600, were analyzed during the preparation of the book."
