Philippa Butler was born in Cyprus but grew up in England. She studied English at London University and has had a variety of jobs including cleaning tables at a motorway service station, book-keeping, market research, teaching adult literacy and working in children's publishing. She lives in London.
George Smith studied graphic art at Harrow College of Art and worked as art director in a major London advertising agency before becoming a full-time illustrator. He lives in Kent.
