Killing Me Softly, by the acclaimed and bestselling author Nicci French, is a terrifying journey into the heart of obsession . . .
You have everything. But you give it up for an affair.
You're in passionate love. And grave danger...
Alice Loudon couldn't resist abandoning her old, safe life for a wild affair. And in Adam Tallis, a rugged mountaineer with a murky past, she finds a man who can teach her things about herself that she never even suspected.
But sexual obsession has its dark side - and so does Adam. Soon both are threatening all that Alice has left. First her sanity. Then her life.

Alice Loudon is a successful London thirtysomething; she has the friends, the career, the flat and the loving boyfriend. Her life seems destined to follow a comfortable, conventional route until one morning her eyes lock with a beautiful, mesmerising man as she crosses a road. When Alice leaves work he is still there, waiting. Without exchanging names they go back to his Soho flat and have "obliterating sex". Unable to overcome her passionate feelings for him, Alice abandons the life she had established for herself to marry the powerful, taciturn Adam, a celebrated mountaineer but a virtual stranger. As their relationship develops, Alice discovers that Adam's beautiful exterior belies disturbing aggressive tendencies. He is by turns abusive and loving.
In an attempt to understand her new husband and her reaction to him, she launches an investigation into his past and, in particular, his past relationships. Sadly for her, the unsettling details she uncovers do not provide the reassurance she needs. Ultimately, Alice jeopardises her own safety to stay with a man she loves to the point of obsession but fears in equal measure. This audio book is a very good abridgement of a thrilling novel. The reader Emilia Fox has exactly the right tone--it as is easy to visualise her as the vibrant young woman totally in control of her own destiny as it is to see her cowering behind an armchair as she hears her husband approaching. The fact that the audio version of the story is a little slow to get going is all but forgotten in its final heart-pounding portion. --Sarah Crawford Running time approx. 3 hoursAbout the Author:
