About the Author:

Samuel Taylor Coleridge, poet, philosopher and critic, was born in 1722, the youngest son of a clergyman. At nineteen he went to Cambridge but, distracted by revolutionary politics and a failed love affair, he did not complete his degree. The great flowering of his poetic genius took place within five years and above all in 1797, when he first met the Wordsworths. He died in 1834.
