Roman Vishniac was living in Germany with the knowledge that Hitler had made it his mission to exterminate all Jews. Unable to save his people, he committed himself to saving their memory.
Of the 16,000 photographs that Vishniac took, all but 2,000 were confiscated. He was also thrown into prison for his photographic activities.
