It commences with an introduction to single fibre failure and an examination of textile wear, before discussing brittle tensile and ductile tensile fracture and high-speed tensile break. There is a section on axial splits, granular fracture and fibrillar failure, before the work progresses to the subject of fatigue. Tensile and flex fatigue and biaxial rotation fatigue are discussed, as well as surface shear and wear. There is also a study of degraded fibres and twist breaks, cotton, wool and hair, cutting and melting, and other fibres and conditions. The book then proceeds to discuss processed fibre ends and yarn testing, fabric testing and composite testing. In a series of examples and case studies, the authors look at household textiles and carpets, as well as industrial workwear and military clothing, before proceeding to the wear and tear situation in seat belts, military webbings and cords, ropes, and other industrial products.
