Synopsis:

The last volume in a trilogy which includes "Flight from the Middle East" and "Eastward", this book relates the story of the Royal Air Force in the Mediterranean and the countries bordering it, from the end of World War II until 1986. The author had full access to official documents for this book, which covers the globally small, but volatile area, stretching from the Rock of Gibraltar to the frontier of Jordan and Iraq and from the Balkans to the Sudan. The role played by the Royal Air Force in Jordan and events such as the Palestine campaign, the crisis over Suez, and developments in Cyprus are examined. The book ends on a contemporary note with a chapter on today's presence in the Mediterranean.
