A new feature is the use of Microsoft Excel for solution of both steady state and transient heat transfer problems. Excel is given a rather full discussioon in a new Appendix D, which includes treatment of heat source and radiation boundary conditions. A special template has been added that automatically writes nodal equations in accorance with geometric model and boundary conditions set up by user.
An Excel template has been added that analyzes the heating and cooling of lumped capacity with both radiation and variable convection boundary conditions. Also included are new numerical computer examples, including heat source effect.
The solutions manual is now typeset and will present solutions to computer numerical problems in an Excel format.
All Excel templates will be available on the custom book website, so that information need not be re-keyed. In addition, special Excel graphical templates and an MS Word symbol keyboard template will be available on the website to facilitate direct keyboarding of symbols and the immediate setup of 3D charts. The Excel templates, prepared by the author as a supplemental resource, offer unique setups of numberical solutions.

The text's strong emphasis on resistance capacity formulation in numerical-computer methods has been retained and strengthened.
The new edition continues to focus on traditional empirical relations for the calculation of convection heat transfer, while presenting recent alternative methods.
At the end of each problem set there is a "Design-oriented Problems" section. These problems are open-ended and typically do not result in a unique answer. Many are extensive in length and require judgment decisions during the solution process. Over 100 such problems are included in the text.
In response to user requests, answers to selected problems have been provided in a section at the back of the book.
The computer software for the previous edition, developed by Prof. Allan D. Kraus, is now offered on the book website at no charge.
Many of the 1,100 problems are new, including 100 design-oriented problems which require judgment decisions.
Labeled examples and a new listing of worked examples are located at the end of each chapter to help students correlate the examples with the problems and theory.
A computer emphasis with extensive coverage of how to establish computational algorithms is found in chapters 3, 4, and 8.
Chapter 11 is devoted solely to mass transfer.
The reorganization of content reflects a more modern approach. Outdated techniques in the numerical methods section (chapter 3), along with the special topics chapter have been eliminated, while heat pipes and low density heat transfer have been moved to chapters 9 and 7, respectively.
