Review:
Saving Darwin was not what I expected. I thought that it would be an attempt to reconcile the theology of the Bible with evolution (for example, to reinterpret the concept of the Fall in light of evolution). This is because I knew that Karl Giberson is a colleague of Francis Collins at Biologos, a Christian initiative to reconcile Christianity and evolution. However, the book was more to do with defending the idea of evolution from creationism and ID. The title, 'Saving Darwin' is apt given that Giberson defends Darwin against creationist charges that he conjured up evolution in order to justify his own godlessness; a baseless distortion of what really happened and Darwin's true character. Giberson also takes us on a historical journey, looking at the relationship between Christianity and Darwinism in its earliest days, and illustrating that it wasn't always the tense stand-off it's often portrayed as these days. Although it wasn't what I expected, in the end it turned out to be a very interesting, engaging book. --http://www.amazon.co.uk/Saving-Darwin-Christian-Believe-Evolution/dp/0061441732/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1301510734&sr=1-1

The author accepts evolution as a scientific fact: as one goes back through hundreds of millions of years of the fossil record, life forms become increasingly simple. More complex forms of life evolved through time. Thus, there is no disputing evolution. Darwin's theory of evolution (his explanation of how life forms evolve) is, however, open to debate. It seems odd to state that one believes in scientific facts. Unlike religion, science has to do with empirical facts. Religion is a matter of beliefs, not facts. Faith, says St Paul, is the evidence of things not seen. Religion, unlike science, thus has little (and at times nothing) to do with empirical evidence. --http://www.amazon.co.uk/Saving-Darwin-Christian-Believe-Evolution/dp/0061441732/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1301510734&sr=1-1
