'The Business of Heaven' comprises a reading for each day of the year from the great range of C.S. Lewis’s best-selling books.
“Joy is the serious business of Heaven.”
C.S. Lewis, 'The Four Loves'
The readings present Lewis in all his different moods. Sometimes he tackles the ‘big’ theological issues, sometimes small details of the New Testament. There are words of comfort and inspiration, including the subjects of love, death and the power of prayer.
The extracts are linked where possible to the feasts and seasons of the Christian year. As Lewis said, ‘It is as well to have specifically holy places, and things and days, for, without these local pointsor reminders, the belief that all is holy and “big with God” will soon dwindle into a mere sentiment.’About the Author:
Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably one of the most influential writers of his day. He was a fellow and tutor in English Literature at Oxford University until 1954 when he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance English at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement.
