Quarrelsome Queen decides to have a picnic and everyone has to bring something and get there on time! Children will have fun finding out how the Letterlanders got to the picnic and what they took along.

This enjoyable story is part of Stage 2 of Reading At Home, a carefully planned reading strand, which takes children from the earliest stages of reading to deciphering whole sentences within a story context.

Quarrelsome Queen’s Picnic has two sentences of text on each spread, which combined with charming illustrations all help to make learning to read fun!

From the Back Cover:

'Letterland' is the highly successful literacy scheme used in thousands of schools to teach young children to read and write. The 'Reading At Home' programme has been specially devised for parents to share in the success and enjoyment of Letterland at home and to give their children a head start at school.

There are three colour-coded stages to enable you to choose the books most suitable for your child:
· 'Stage 1' Reading together (Age 2-4)
This stage is designed for young children experiencing the written word for the first time. Each book is ideal for sharing and provides lots of opportunities to talk about words and pictures in context.
· 'Stage 2' Beginning to read (Age 3-6)
The stories at this Stage use pattern and rhyme, along with key words, to encourage an enjoyment of reading and to give your child the confidence to tackle words and short phrases by themselves.
· 'Stage 3' Now I can read (Age 5-7)
At this stage your child will be ready to put some of their newly acquired skills into practice. All the delightful stories included in Stage 3 will boost confidence and help to establish a lifelong love of books.

In 'Quarrelsome Queen’s Picnic', the attention of the child should be brought to the link between each Letterland character and other words in the sentence starting with his or her word, particularly the food. This attention to words with the same starting sound helps your child to develop language skills.
